SAINT LOUIS, MISSOURI (January 2024) Jonathan Strong, Stephanie Usher, and Susan Brewster have joined United 4 Children’s Board of Directors. Beth Csengody will become the new board chair.  The Board acts as the highest leadership body of the organization and is responsible for strategical and organizational planning, ensuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management, fundraising and resource development, enhancing the organization’s public image, and more. 

“We are thrilled to have each of their expertise on our Board of Directors,” said United 4 Children Executive Director Deanna Finch. “Jonathan’s experience in education, Stephanie’s knowledge of IT and finance, and Susan’s background in strategic planning and marketing will make our board stronger as we advance our vision to ensure that every child has the foundation to thrive. In addition to our new board members, Beth has been an amazing supporter of the mission and will be invaluable as the next board chair.  We are excited to see how each of them show their passion for that vision.” 

Jonathan Strong is the new chief equity and inclusion officer for the City of St. Louis. Prior to that, Strong served as principal of Meramec Elementary School for the St. Louis Public School District and has more than 20 years of experience working in education. He helped found an organization called Seed mentoring and serves as an advisor to the Kilalo Rights of Passage board. Strong appreciates any chance to support families, children and to give back to the community.  

 “I love the focus on early child development and giving all children a solid foundation to grow from,” Strong said of why he was drawn to United 4 Children. 

Stephanie Usher is assistant vice president for the Federal Reserve Bank. She brings with her experience in information technology, finance, strategic planning, diversity, equity, inclusion, and more. Usher was a member of the Spring 2023 Cohort of FOCUS St. Louis Women in Leadership. She is a licensed foster care provider with Bringing Families Together and volunteers at All For Family. 

“I have always been an advocate for children and I’m looking to be part of an organization that can make a positive impact on their lives,” Usher shared. 

Susan Brewster is a strategic growth manager for Hussmann. While her current role is in strategy, she brings with her more than 20 years of experience in product marketing, brand management and marketing communications. Brewster was a member of the Spring 2023 Cohort of FOCUS St. Louis Women In Leadership. She also gives her time as a Make-A-Wish granter and a St. Louis Food Bank volunteer. 

 “I love our community and want to see it thrive-starting with giving children a chance to learn and grow,” Brewster shared. 

Beth Csengody is the vice president of advisor diversity and inclusion at LPL Financial.  In this role, she is responsible for ensuring LPL Financial is the destination of choice for all financial advisors, with an intentional lens towards the recruiting, retention, and elevation of advisors from historically underrepresented communities.  Prior to joining LPL, Csengody held multiples strategic roles at Wells Fargo Advisors, ranging from designing DEI outreach strategies to building out the Interactive Social Media Program. Csengody has been on the United 4 Children board since 2019 and has been heavily involved in the Executive Committee as well as the Advancement Committee. 

“The fact that we are empowering educators and helping them to grow means that the exponential impact of what they in turn can do is really significant,” Csengody explained why she serves on the board of United 4 Children.   

United 4 Children is a nonprofit serving children, families, and child care partners across Missouri. Board of Directors members serve three-year terms and may be elected to serve an additional successive three-year term. United 4 Children’s board members serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization, identify and help secure financial resources and partnerships necessary for the organization to advance its mission, and get to know the organization’s mission, programs, and needs deeply.
