Job Title: Nutrition Consultant – Assistant Program Administrator

Program: Illinois Nutrition Program        

Reports To: CNS IL Program Administrator

SUMMARY

Under the general direction on the CNS –MO Administrator, monitors family child care providers participating in the Child & Adult Care Food Program as required; assures that providers are operating in compliance with State and Federal regulations of the CACFP.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Processes monthly claims for reimbursement, recruits’ providers from IDHS and DCFS list, makes files, opens new providers on Accutrak and State database, and prepares mailing for new providers.
  • Maintains the CACFP database, updates provider information, process provider, and Parent Household Income applications. Does school determination.
  •  Answers telephones and updates voice mail messages. Creates training when necessary. File claims and other related documents. Conducts monitoring visits with family child care providers as required by State and Federal regulations, tracks visits by date and enters information to schedule future visits. These may include weekend, holiday, and evening visits.
  • Promotes the Agency in the community and with cooperating agencies and provides technical assistance and training to providers at monitoring visits and/or at group sessions as needed

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred, with some course work in nutrition education, social services, or a related field required, plus two years of paid professional work experience. Differing combinations of education and work experience may be considered.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. Familiar with the use of technology in order to communicate via email, cell phone, voicemail, and text messaging
  • Familiarity with family child care is preferred.
  • Basic mathematical skills required to process and proof claims

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to understand, learn, and explain State and Federal regulations to

Providers

  • Ability to work independently both in the office and in the field
  • Effectively monitor caseload of assigned family child care providers, experience communicating and developing supportive relationships with a diverse group of adults and children.
  • Must meet all Federal, State and Agency CACFP regulations in managing  caseloads
  • Ability to organize and balance complex work demands. Must be comfortable building relationships with providers, and show initiative taking on new tasks.
  • Submit monthly documentation: monitored visits, mileage, and expense reports
  • Must possess good verbal and written language skills and be able to speak well in public settings.
  • Other duties as assigned

LICENSE, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS

  • Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable automobile, and insurance carrying the required level ($300,000/$100,000) of liability insurance.
  • Pass background check and fingerprinting as required.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS 

  • Must be able to maneuver through a provider’s child care and interact with children at their level.
  • Standing during visits may be required.
  • Moderate lifting is required
  • Ability to speak coherently
  • Ability to write accurately and legibly
  • Good vision and hearing.

TRAVEL

Must have valid driver’s license and automobile insurance carrying the required level ($300,000/$100,000) of liability insurance.
