Grant Writer

Title: Grant Writer

Salary Range: $40,000 – $50,000 dependent on experience, with opportunities to grow over time and with proven success.

Reports to: Executive Director

Summary of Position

The Grant Writer will work collaboratively with Executive Director, Program Officer, Annual Fund Coordinator, Marketing and Communications Coordinator, and The Charity CFO (TCCFO) Accounting team to reach the strategic funding goals of the organization with an operational budget of $3-6 million. They will be responsible for all aspects of grant writing including donor stewardship, data maintenance, research/coordination/optimization, collaborative planning, grant research/coordination/optimization/reporting for all organizational grants: Federal/State, foundation, corporate and sponsorships; and coordination of funding contracts. A successful candidate will work collaboratively with the full agency to maximize resources, educate and empower teams, find efficiencies, implement best practices, innovate new initiatives, and ensure the agency is fulfilling its commitments. Connections with the agency and external partners will be built through relationships, using an equity lens, while working toward solutions that help create a dynamic space for U4C teams.

All programs at United 4 Children use evaluation and assessment, education, and coaching to empower caregivers to nurture whole-child development through early childhood and afterschool programs. We strive to achieve the following outcomes. 

  1. Children are welcomed in accessible childcare settings and supported with their unique needs. 
  2. Early childhood educators are empowered to implement high quality care for children birth through third grade. 
  3. Communities, families, and early childhood educators understand and are equipped to nurture whole child well-being and development. 

Our clients are early childhood educators, families, children, and the communities where they live. We serve the states of Missouri and Illinois, and each program team member is responsible for a geographic region and caseload.  

Required Responsibility Commitments 

  • Develop and maintain relationships across teams at United 4 Children 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with partners- funders and service agencies  
  • Implement and promote agency culture within all teams  
  • Adhere to United 4 Children requirements of quality improvement
  • Proactively work with Executive leadership to successfully meet deliverables and outcomes 
  • Proactively work with Advancement team to successfully meet deliverables and outcomes
  • Proactively work with Program team to successfully meet deliverables and outcomes
  • Track and enter data on designated platform(s) 
  • Follow agency standard operating procedures 

Required Experience Commitments 

  • Associates degree or at least 3 years’ grant writing or field experience
  • Experience in program development is preferred
  • Proven record of success in grant writing and external relationship building
  • Knowledge and understanding of accounting and/or budgeting principles is required
  • Superior attention to detail with strong analytical skills
  • Solid understanding of QuickBooks, MS Office, and grant management software
  • Excellent time and project management, and organizational skills needed
  • Experience in communicating and developing supportive relationships with diverse groups
  • Must have a passion for getting things done. Must believe in continual process improvement and be ready to jump in to manage challenges as they occur.

The Nutrition Specialist for the Greater St. Louis Region of Missouri and Illinois will work collaboratively with early care and education programs to implement support services of the Child and Adult Food Care Program. Support services includes but is not limited to; professional development and education, onsite modeling, coaching, technical assistance, face to face and phone coaching, reporting, and evaluation. A successful candidate will work collaboratively with the childcare programs to provide resources, coaching, professional development, and evaluation. Connections with the care providers in service delivery area will be built through relationships, using an equity lens, while working toward solutions that help create a dynamic space for children. Travel through the service delivery region of Missouri and Illinois is required.

Required Experience Commitments
• Bachelor’s degree preferred, with some course work in nutrition education, social
services or a related field required, plus two years of paid professional work experience.
• Differing combinations of education and work experience may be considered.
• Familiarity with family childcare is preferred

• Successful implementation of trauma informed strategies
• Diligent use of a justice, equity, and inclusion lens when working with self and others

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Data Entry

Job Title:       Data Entry Assistant

Purpose:  The position of the Data Entry Assistant will assist staff with the input of training surveys into NEON a training database software or Microsoft Excel.

Location:  The Data Entry Assistant works at the agency’s office at 1310 Papin, Suite 100B, St. Louis, MO 63103.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The Data Entry Assistant will enter all training surveys into NEON.
  • The Data Entry Assistant will generate a report of the surveys if requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Reports to:  Communications Specialist

Length of Appointment:  The Data Entry Assistant is assigned to one day per week or however many hours the volunteer chooses.

Time Commitment:  One day per week (M, W, or F) for six hours 9-12 am and 1-4 pm).

Qualifications:  Basic knowledge of computer and data entry, Pleasant manner, patience, problem-solving ability, dependability.

Support:  Training for the position will be provided.  In addition, the Training and Customer Service Specialist will be available for questions and assistance.

Age Requirement:  18 and over

The Finance Committee shall develop and recommend to the board those financial policies, plans, and courses of action that provide for mission accomplishment and organizational financial well-being including the annual budget and audit; will review financial reports and make fiscal recommendations as needed.  The committee meets bi-monthly.

The Fund Development Committee member shall assist the Development Officer and Executive Director in creating and implementing the fund development plan. This committee meets monthly.

Intern/Practicum Student

DESCRIPTION

United 4 Children (U4C) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. U4C’s mission improves the social, emotional, physical, and educational wellbeing of our children by enriching the knowledge of families, teachers, and caregivers. United 4 Children is seeking an intern or practicum student who is looking to gain experience with a small non-profit in a variety of core activities. This is part-time and schedule is flexible.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Working on a Bachelor’s degree or higher with an interest in nonprofit development and or administration is desired. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter; goal oriented and comfortable working independently as well as with a team. This role will offer experience in fund development, finance, database management, event planning, grant writing. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, exceptional organizational skills, and experience in social media is a necessity.

LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

The fundamentals for a nonprofit career will be experienced. All aspects of growing the agency through advocacy, board building, marketing, advertising, event planning, database analysis, generating reports for a fund development plan, grant writing, recruit volunteers, identify new donors will be experienced.
