United 4 Children is seeking an Lead Accountant.

PROGRAM:  Administration

REPORTS TO:  Executive Director

SUMMARY

Responsible for all financial office functions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare budgets and budget variances
  • Generate monthly financial statements
  • Coordinate the audit and preparation of 990
  • Responsible for reporting and distribution of payroll
  • Reconcile bank accounts
  • Reconcile general ledger
  • Process accounts payable invoices, allocating and coding appropriately
  • Prepare and post journal entries
  • Process cash receipts
  • Serve as banking liaison
  • Other duties may be assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accounting Assistant Position
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Associates degree in accounting or equivalent
  • Five years of experience in accounting
  • Non-profit or cost accounting experience needed
  • Proficient in Excel necessary
  • Microsoft Office a plus

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT SKILLS

Must have ability to work at management level with other management staff on projects, budgets and reporting.  Human resource knowledge is very helpful.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Should be able to communicate effectively in writing and in speaking at the management level.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

A high level of logic and mathematical skills are required for accounting.

TRAVEL

Must have Missouri or Illinois driver’s license and automobile insurance carrying the required level of liability insurance.

United 4 Children is seeking an Intern interested in nonprofit development, event planning and/or fundraising, previous internships at nonprofit organizations are a plus.

Responsibilities include:
Assist with events (Quarter Auction January, 2015 and Annual Event, and Golf Tournament 2015)
Assist with administrative tasks
Assist with volunteer processing
Work with database
Other task as needed

Qualifications:
Reliable transportation
Strong attention to detail
Strong writting and communications skills
Ability to work well both alone and with a team
Knowledge of Microsoft Office
Commitment to United 4 Children’s mission

Time commitment:
10-15 hours per week, flexible on days and times.  Preferred start date immediately with one month’s commitment.
